Chapter guide
What happens in this chapter
Chapter 1197 is built as one continuous fight, and Oda spends almost none of it on spectacle. Killingham opens by repeating the argument he made in 1196 — that Sanji's confidence is noise, that the Omen armour cannot be broken by someone who does not matter. Sanji's answer is to stop arguing.
The turn is internal. Two years on Kamabakka Kingdom and Ivankov's blunt diagnosis that his real weakness was never his body finally get applied to the fight in front of him. Once he stops treating himself as expendable, his Haki answers: black and red lightning gathers around his legs, and the spinning back kick that closes the chapter takes Killingham's spear, then his helmet, then his confidence.
By the last page the Holy Knight is bleeding and retreating, and Sanji is standing exactly where he has always wanted to stand — beside Luffy, the shield to Zoro's sword. The end note confirms a one-week break, which is why Chapter 1198 arrives on November 8 rather than November 1.
Key moments
Conqueror's Haki on the leg
Black lightning braided with red — the visual signature the Elbaf arc had been hinting at since Sanji's first exchange with Killingham.
The Omen armour breaks
The defence that shrugged off everything in 1196 fails in a single strike, the moment Sanji's will stops wavering.
The shield line
Zoro as the sword, Sanji as the shield: the role he names out loud in this chapter and then proves in the same breath.
Killingham retreats
The God's Knight gets no counterattack, only distance — the same ending Oda gave Sommers against Zoro.
